US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are gearing up for their first one-on-one meeting in six years, with the high-stakes summit set to take place in Alaska. The talks, focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine, are expected to draw global attention.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Trump said Putin “won’t mess around with me,” signaling a tough stance as he positions himself as a potential global peacemaker.
Notably absent from the talks is Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has warned that any decisions made without Kyiv’s involvement “will be meaningless.”
Analysts say Putin remains determined to secure Ukrainian territory, while Trump aims to broker an agreement that could boost his image as a dealmaker on the world stage.
Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, sparking a conflict that has killed tens of thousands of soldiers on both sides and left the region deeply scarred.
