Kremlin Says Military Will Decide Timing of Response to Ukrainian Drone Strikes

The Kremlin has confirmed that Russia will determine the timing and nature of its response to Ukraine’s recent drone attacks on strategic military airbases, stating that any retaliatory action will be carried out at the discretion of its armed forces.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed the incident involving Ukrainian drones that struck multiple airfields deep within Russian territory on Sunday. The attacks reportedly targeted bases housing nuclear-capable aircraft, raising serious concerns about the escalation of the conflict.

"Our military will respond as and when they consider it appropriate," Peskov said, emphasizing that decisions would be made strategically rather than reactively.

Peskov also confirmed that President Vladimir Putin had personally informed former U.S. President Donald Trump about the attacks and Russia’s intention to retaliate, though no further details were provided regarding the conversation.

The incident marks one of the deepest strikes inside Russia since the onset of the conflict, highlighting Ukraine’s growing long-range capabilities and raising the stakes in the ongoing war.

While Moscow has not revealed the scale of the damage or whether there were casualties, the Kremlin’s restrained but firm stance signals a calculated approach to any forthcoming military response.
