Amazon is reportedly venturing deeper into robotics with the development of software for humanoid robots that could one day replace human delivery workers, according to a report published by The Information on Wednesday.
Citing a source familiar with the project, the report suggests the tech and retail giant is constructing an indoor "humanoid park" — an obstacle-course-style testing facility — at one of its offices in San Francisco. The space is designed to evaluate the physical capabilities of the robots in navigating real-world delivery environments.
While Reuters has not independently verified the report, the move signals Amazon’s continued investment in automation and artificial intelligence, expanding beyond its current fleet of warehouse robots and delivery drones.
If successful, the humanoid robots could revolutionize Amazon’s logistics operations, raising both interest and concerns about the future of human employment in delivery services.
