Differently-abled Emirati 'makes' top cop
A differently-abled UAE citizen’s dream of working as a traffic officer has been fulfilled. Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police helped Mohammed Al Mozahmi work as a traffic officer for a day with the Highways Traffic Section in Al Ain.
Granting Al Mozahmi’s wish comes within the framework of an initiative presented by the Red Crescent in cooperation with the Al Ain Centre for Care and Rehabilitation, and in line with the keenness of the Abu Dhabi Police to enhance the levels of communication amongst all segments of society.
Lt. Colonel Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Chief of the Highways Section in Al Ain received Al Mozahmi, who was accompanied by delegates from the Al Ain Centre for Care and Rehabilitation and the Red Crescent. He explained that Abu Dhabi Police have granted his wish to join the Traffic and Patrols Directorate for a day and gave him a military uniform to wear while being taken on a tour at the Traffic Patrol.
Al Mozahmi learned of the work of traffic patrols and toured some of the areas with the ‘Tathqeef’ traffic patrol. At the end of the tour, he expressed his happiness with simple words for all those who interacted with him to make this wish come true.
Lt. Col. Al Hemairi emphasised the attention dedicated by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate to enhance communication with people with disabilities, and to prepare special programmes that are suitable for their abilities and for their integration in the society. “We ultimately want to make them feel as though they are an integral part of our society,” he said.
