Can AI Create Everything? UAE Draws the Line

Can artificial intelligence create almost anything? The UAE has drawn a clear line, warning against using AI or other modern technologies to create images or videos featuring national symbols or public figures without prior official approval.
The UAE’s National Media Authority said such use would violate the country’s media content standards, according to a post on X.
The authority said the warning is based on media content rules currently in force, which require respect for the UAE’s system of government, national symbols, institutions and national identity.
The rules also prohibit the publication or circulation of false or misleading material.
The warning comes as AI tools become increasingly capable of producing highly realistic images, videos and audio from simple text prompts, making it harder to distinguish authentic material from fabricated content.
The authority’s guidance means that creating or circulating AI-generated content involving the UAE’s national symbols or public figures is subject to official approval.
