Honor puts a robot in your pocket

Honor has officially launched its highly anticipated Robot Phone in China, introducing an unusual smartphone design that combines a motorized gimbal camera with artificial intelligence and flagship hardware.

The phone’s standout feature is a 200MP main camera mounted on a titanium 4DoF gimbal, allowing the camera to move independently and track subjects. The mechanism can rotate at high speed and enables features such as AI subject tracking, stabilized video, and dynamic shooting angles.

Honor says the titanium gimbal uses more than 100 precision components and was designed to significantly reduce the size of conventional gimbal systems while improving structural strength.

The Robot Phone also features a 200MP periscope telephoto camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. Honor has partnered with professional cinema company ARRI to bring cinematic imaging tools, including ARRI LogC3 and related color workflows, to the smartphone.

The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and comes with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It has a 6.3-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED display and a large 7,060mAh battery, with support for 120W wired and 50W wireless charging.

Honor has also integrated its YOYO Robot Mode, allowing users to control camera functions through voice commands, gestures, and AI-powered subject tracking. The system can automatically keep a person in frame while recording.

The Robot Phone starts at CNY 9,999 for the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage model, while the 16GB/1TB version costs CNY 12,999. Open sales in China are scheduled to begin on August 18, with no confirmed international availability yet.

The launch marks one of Honor’s boldest attempts to rethink smartphone photography, turning the phone’s camera into a mechanically moving system designed particularly for content creators, vloggers, and mobile filmmakers.
