BMW M to Launch Fully Electric High-Performance Vehicles in 2027

BMW M is set to bring its iconic “Ultimate Driving Machine” experience into the electric era with the launch of the BMW M Neue Klasse in 2027. For the first time, BMW M’s motto—“Born on the racetrack. Made for the streets. Core of a passionate community”—will be realized with a fully electric drivetrain.

A New Standard for High-Performance Driving
Franciscus van Meel, Managing Director of BMW M GmbH, said the new models will “establish a benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment” by combining racetrack-ready dynamics with everyday usability. The BMW M Neue Klasse promises long range, ultra-fast 800-volt charging, and efficient energy recovery, making it versatile for daily use. Its new architecture, featuring centrally controlled individual wheel drive, also enhances safety and driving dynamics.

Innovative Electric Drive Technology
The BMW M Neue Klasse is built around the BMW M eDrive, using the latest Gen6 technology. Each wheel is powered by an electric motor, controlled by the BMW M Dynamic Performance Control system. This setup provides maximum traction, precise torque distribution, and high driving safety, whether on the road or track. The system can even fully decouple the front axle to deliver BMW M’s signature rear-wheel drive feel, boosting efficiency and range on longer trips.

Drivers will also enjoy advanced features like predefined driving modes, emulated gear shifts, and a unique soundscape, all designed to maintain the classic BMW M driving excitement in an electric format.

High-Performance Battery and Advanced Electronics
The BMW M Neue Klasse features a high-voltage battery with over 100 kWh capacity, optimized for peak power, racetrack performance, and fast charging. The battery is integrated into the vehicle structure, improving rigidity and handling. The car also uses BMW’s future-ready electronics architecture, including four high-performance computers (“Superbrains”) that manage driving dynamics, automated driving, infotainment, and comfort features. This ensures faster software updates and overall improved vehicle performance.
