The Avengers Are Back on Top, Seven Years Later
A re-release beat three new films as cinemas enjoy a bumper year

All three lost to a film from 2019.
Avengers: Endgame, the second-highest-earning film ever made, is back at number one. Billed as Endgame: Encore, the new version comes with a changed ending and fresh scenes after the credits, built to lead straight into the next Marvel event, Avengers: Doomsday, in December.
Fans clearly could not resist. The re-release took $26 million in America and another $60 million around the world.
And the cinemas themselves are celebrating. Ticket sales last weekend were up 58.5 per cent on the same weekend last year.
The record-breaking is not slowing down either, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the most successful film in American history, and the new Resident Evil passed $100 million there in less than two weeks.
