Washington: A group of 52 countries has pledged to strengthen efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining materials and technology that could support its nuclear and missile programmes, a year after key UN sanctions against Tehran were restored.
The countries, which are members of the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI), said they would continue implementing six UN Security Council resolutions that returned to force on September 27, 2025, after the completion of the 'snapback' process.
The resolutions impose restrictions on Iran's nuclear-related activities, missile programme and arms transfers. France, Germany and the UK triggered the process, citing Iran's continued failure to meet its nuclear commitments under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In a joint statement, the countries said they would take measures to prevent the direct or indirect supply of goods, equipment, materials and technology that could contribute to the development of nuclear weapons or their delivery systems.
They also committed to strengthening controls on arms and related material being supplied to or from Iran, including items linked to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The countries said they would improve the sharing of information on Iran's proliferation activities, review their domestic laws where necessary and take specific steps to support efforts to stop prohibited transfers.
The statement also backed national initiatives aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, including measures linked to Operation Economic Outcast.
The countries called on all UN member states to implement the reinstated resolutions and urged Iran to comply with its non-proliferation obligations, cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and address international concerns over its nuclear programme.
They also said they would continue coordinating efforts to prevent Iran from resuming activities prohibited under the UN resolutions involving its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.
