“Are You Dead?” App Goes Viral in China
China is buzzing over a new safety app called “Are You Dead?” for people living alone. Users press a green button every 48 hours, or their emergency contacts are alerted. Known as Sileme in China and Demumu internationally, it’s topping paid app charts in China, the US, Singapore and Hong Kong, driven by the rise of solo households, expected to hit 200 million by 2030.
Described as a ‘lightweight safety tool,’ the app requires no registration, encrypts data and targets young solo dwellers, especially women around 25. Created by a three-person team, it aims to reduce loneliness while giving users peace of mind in emergencies.
