Warner Bros.' Practical Magic 2 has topped the global box office, ending a six-week run at No. 1 for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The sequel to the 1998 fantasy comedy, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, opened with an estimated $46 million worldwide, including $30 million in North America and $16 million internationally.
Its debut ended an eight-week stretch in which either Spider-Man: Brand New Day or Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey led the global box office. Spider-Man fell to second with $27.4 million, taking its worldwide total to almost $2.45 billion.
The Odyssey placed third with approximately $1.68 billion worldwide, making it Universal's highest-grossing film ever. The strong opening for Practical Magic 2 gives Hollywood a new box-office leader as the fall movie season begins.
