Pokémon Unveils Major Game and Animation Announcements at 2026 World Championships

The Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco wrapped up with a wave of announcements spanning video games, the Trading Card Game, animation, and the future of the franchise.

One of the biggest reveals was Pokémon Wild Card, a new feature-length animated movie scheduled for 2027. Produced in partnership with Japanese animation studio CloverWorks, the film will follow a Pokémon Trading Card Game player and his partner Mimikyu. It marks Pokémon's return to feature-length animated movies after several years.

Pokémon GO also received major updates. Eligible Mega-Evolved Pokémon will gain an additional Charged Attack, while Armored Mewtwo is set to return to the game for the first time in six years.

For the physical TCG, Pokémon revealed upcoming Mega Pokémon cards and a new ex series, featuring the Legendary trio Raikou, Entei and Suicune. Meanwhile, Pokémon TCG Pocket is introducing dual-type cards in October, beginning with Mega Mewtwo X ex.

Competitive players also received updates for Pokémon UNITE, including Mega Lucario Z, Mega Absol Z and Mega Garchomp Z, alongside new additions arriving through Regulation Set M-C.

In Pokémon UNITE, Morpeko, Toxtricity, Jolteon and Flareon were announced as upcoming playable characters.

The weekend also looked ahead to the franchise's next major gathering: the 2027 Pokémon World Championships will take place in Singapore from August 13-15, bringing the event back to Asia.

With new games, card mechanics, animated projects, and a major international event already announced, the 2026 Worlds proved to be much more than a competitive tournament—it became a showcase for Pokémon's next chapter.
