Huawei Launches Revolutionary PEN Solution in Middle East & Central Asia to Transform Enterprise Networking

At GITEX 2025, Huawei unveiled its groundbreaking Passive Ethernet Network (PEN) solution, a move set to redefine campus networking across the Middle East and Central Asia. The announcement was made by Ricky Zhu, Vice President of Huawei’s Campus Network Domain, during his keynote, “Innovative Ethernet: A New Choice for the World.”

As artificial intelligence (AI) terminals and applications become increasingly integral to daily operations, enterprises are racing to accelerate digital and intelligent transformation. To keep pace, organizations require campus networks that offer higher bandwidth, simplified operations and maintenance (O&M), and scalable future-proof solutions—areas where traditional passive optical networks often fall short. Huawei’s PEN solution addresses these challenges head-on.

Smaller footprint, smarter networks
Huawei’s PEN leverages energy-efficient, low-carbon design to offer a network that is compact, easy to manage, and sustainable. By replacing traditional aggregation switches with passive aggregation modules, the solution frees up 75% of cabinet space and eliminates the need for specialized extra-low voltage rooms.

Simplified management
Through a revolutionary “one device, one network” architecture, PEN transforms a traditional three-layer network into a single-layer structure, reducing managed nodes by 90%. This enables ultra-simplified deployment and maintenance, dramatically cutting operational complexity.

Sustainable deployment
Passive aggregation modules cut energy consumption by 20%, while Remote Units (RUs) can be deployed directly in rooms, saving up to 75% of cabling and further reducing energy use and engineering costs.

“Huawei’s PEN Solution sets a new benchmark in campus networking,” said Ricky Zhu. “With high-density access of 512 × 10GE per chassis and a core bandwidth of 160GE, it provides true 10GE connectivity to rooms without optical splitting. Operating fully on Ethernet protocols, the network ensures unified O&M, simplifying operations and reducing costs.”

Designed for room-intensive environments, such as schools, universities, and healthcare facilities, Huawei’s PEN is poised to accelerate industries’ intelligent transformation. By pioneering advanced network architectures, Huawei continues to drive sustainable digital infrastructure upgrades and support high-quality growth across sectors.
