Rani Mukherjee and Aditya Chopra become parents

Actress Rani Mukerji and filmmaker Aditya Chopra have been blessed with a little baby girl, named 'Adira'.

Their "healthy and feisty" daughter was born at Breach Candy Hospital on Wednesday morning.

"'I would like to thank all my well wishers and fans," a delighted Rani said, adding that giving birth to Adira was "God's greatest gift".

"Today, life has given us God's greatest gift with Adira. We thank fans our friends and well wishers for their unconditional support and blessings. With joy we begin this new chapter in our lives,' the 37-year-old said.

The little one has been named ‘Adira’ as an inspiration from the parents – taking ‘Adi’ from Aditya Chopra’s name and ‘Ra’ from Rani’s name.

"IT’S A GIRL!!!!!" Uday Chopra, the little one's uncle tweeted.

Filmmaker Karan Johar also shared his happiness in a tweet: "Am an uncle to a beautiful baby girl today!!!!! @udaychopra !!! Rani and Adi had a baby girl!!"

Congratulating the “proud parents”, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor tweeted and broke the news on the social media platform.

“Rani and Aditya Chopra become proud parents to a baby girl named Adira. Congratulations!” he tweeted.

An excited Parineeti Chopra said, "ITS A GIRL !!!! So so excited baby Adira is born !! #Adi #Rani."

Jitesh Pillai also tweeted, "It's a girl! Congratulations Rani Mukherjee and Aditya Chopra. She's named Adira."

Rani and Aditya, who were in a long relationship, exchanged their wedding vows in April 2014. Their marriage ceremony in Italy was a low key affair.
