Obaidli,Qaed cruise in GPIC Tournament
Unseeded Rashid Obaidli and Yousef Qaed upset fifth seeded Serwin Rampersad and Lars Klaverstijn 6-2, 2-6, 10-4 last night in the Round of 16 of the Men’s Super Doubles in the 29th GPIC Open Tennis Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Club premises in Juffair.
Another unseeded pair Abdul Rahman Showaiter and Sayyar Mohammed knocked eighth seeds Dwight Alivio/ Jess Espinosa 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 in another three-setter.
The top seeds Hassan and Karim Abdulnabi had no problem in defeating Ashraf Atabani and Khalid Qayoom in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 and second seeds Abdul Rahman and Ahmed Janahi also won through in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 against Jasper Meinema and David Oosterweghel, while third seeds Ariel Logrono and Jojo Fernandez strolled through 6-0, 6-1 against Sundara Ram and Yousef Fakhro.
In the other matches played, fourth seeds Abdul Rahman Shehab and Khalid Al Thawadi advanced at the expense of Khalid Janahi and Khalid Nass 6-0-6-2, sixth seeds Bader Abdul A’al and Antonio Catito beat Mauricio Cardoza and Savvas Konstantiou 6-1, 6-1 and seventh seeds Nader and Mohammed Abdul A’al were easy 6-0, 6-0 winners against Nilesh Parmar and Ahmed Al Mahmood. Other action coming up is +45 Doubles starting tomorrow with the top two seeds being Stalin Joseph and Uday Shanbhag and Kamal and Ali Khonji, while Thursday sees the Super Singles underway with the top four seeds being Yousif Qaed, Karim Redha, Lars Klaverstijn and Hassan Redha.
Matches start each day from 6pm except Fridays when none are scheduled.
