Qutami Wins Countback Thriller

Rashed Al Qutami narrowly defeated Abdulla Al Jowher on countback to win an 18-hole Stableford competition at Awali Golf Club, marking the venue’s first event in two months after reopening.
Played last Friday in mild but windy conditions, the competition saw golfers return with modest expectations, prioritising enjoyment after a long break. The breeze added difficulty but helped players stay composed and make measured decisions.
Al Qutami carded 37 points, including two birdies and several pars, while Al Jowher matched the score after a strong finish. However, Al Qutami’s superior performance on the back nine secured him the victory.
Salah Musbah Al Kaabi and Abdulrahim Fakhroo followed with 35 points each, while Benedikt Schwerm, Nathan Prince and Daniel Guillaume all scored 34.
Prizes were presented by club captain Steve Newall. The club will host a Club Medal competition next week, weather permitting.
