Balbir Singh produced a commanding performance to win the 57th Abdulla Ali Kanoo Cup, posting a net 65 to edge out Susan Scott by a single shot in near-perfect playing conditions.
Singh, a former champion of the event, demonstrated remarkable consistency off a 12 handicap, carding a gross 77 built on steady pars and controlled bogeys. Scott pushed him closely with a net 66, as several players returned strong scores in one of the club’s most competitive editions of the prestigious tournament.
The race for the Medal, awarded for best gross score, was equally intense. Lee McIlear signed off his final competitive round at Awali with an eagle on the last hole for a 70, but it was Nasser Yaqoob Saleh who claimed the honour with a superb 69, highlighted by three front-nine birdies and a flawless back nine of nine consecutive pars.
Prizes were presented by tournament director Rashed Al Qutami, club captain Steve Newall and Ahmed Kanoo, representing the Abdulla Ali Kanoo Group, as the long-standing competition once again underlined its tradition and strong community support.
