Indian School Bahrain students recover following bus accident

Eleven school children who were injured when two buses collided yesterday are all fine recovering well, officials informed.

The Indian School Bahrain students were treated for minor injuries at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) following the accident at around 2pm.

An official inquiry has now been ordered by the Isa Town school, from where the children had boarded bus after class.

Several ambulances showed up to treat the injured shortly after the accident during rush hour near the driver training centre in A’ali, which caused traffic delays

School officials too showed up at the scene and helped the injured students from the bus along with other motorists.

“The accident happened near the driving school (in Isa Town),” the school’s Executive Committee member in-charge of Transport and Discipline Bhupinder Singh told News of Bahrain.

“Bus number 72 was followed by bus number 2. Bus 72 applied brakes due to a car in the front. Details are being investigated by police. Around 10 children had minor injuries. One child got few stitches. Thanks to the timely intervention of the paramedics, school staff and Executive Committee for timely action. Children were taken to Salmaniya hospital for first aid and observation by the ambulance. They were all discharged on the same day.”

"We have initiated enquiry from our side as well to enable us to be better equipped for the future and train drivers in defensive driving so that these type of incidents do not happen," added Mr Singh.
"I am personally meeting with the transport companies owners."

School chairman Prince Natarajan had confirmed that the students sustained minor injuries and that some of them were kept under observation at the SMC.

Uninjured students were transferred to another bus.

Sources had earlier said that the accident happened when one of the bus drivers tried to avoid a car.
