Jordan Witt and Jack Mitchell clinched a historic first-ever victory in the British GT Championship for Bahrain’s 2 Seas Motorsport team, with a win in the opening race on Sunday at Snetterton Circuit in England. 2 Seas are in their debut season in the highly competitive series, fielding a pair of McLaren 720S GT3s.

After qualifying in third for the meeting’s first race, Witt wasted no time following the delayed session got underway, and he took the lead within two laps. From there, he posted the fastest lap of the opening stint and as he pitted, a lap later than his closest rival, he was 20 seconds clear. Mitchell returned to the track in the lead and continued to manage his advantage, posting several quickest laps of the race before taking the team’s first race win with the no 10 car and holding a 7.7s margin.

Technical issues on the formation lap for the 2 Seas’ no 9 challenger meant Dean MacDonald started from the back of the field as the race began in tricky conditions behind the safety car. He quickly dispatched of the GT4 traffic and moved up into the top 10 as the GT3 pit window opened.

With a number of the GT3 field stopping early, MacDonald made the most of the opportunity and ran as high as third place before bringing the car in to switch for teammate Angus Fender to run to the flag. Fender showed strong pace, running solidly in the top 10 before running wide and across the grass, which dropped him down to 10th.

Despite the setback, he recovered well and posted the quickest time for the no 9 car in the closing laps, but was caught out by the greasy conditions on the following lap which saw him cross the line in 11th, while securing sixth in the Silver class. Meanwhile, in a tough second race of the weekend for both cars, Witt and Mitchell led home Fender MacDonald to finish eighth and ninth overall, while claiming fifth and sixth in the Silver class. Following the Snetterton round, the British GT Championship now heads to the 2020 season-ending meeting at Silverstone Circuit, scheduled for November 7 and 8.
