DNA traces lead to suspect in fake bomb case

TDT | Manama

DNA traces led to the identification and arrest of a 20-year-old Bahraini man, who placed a fake bomb in A’ali in 2016. The court adjourned the trial of the man, along with a co-defendant, to the hearing on August 11. Court files showed that the case was first reported to the police station, informing that an “unusual” object had been placed behind one of the restaurants in the A’ali area.

A police force, headed by an officer, arrived at the location and found the object. The details of the case showed that the area was cordoned off while a crime scene investigation team was deployed to inspect the object. Swabs were taken off the fake bomb and DNA traces matched those belonging to the suspect in the police database.

“The fingerprint division report confirmed by checking and comparing the fingerprint with the fingerprints saved in the database; they matched the fingerprints of the suspect, with more than 12 distinctive marks,” court files said. Both defendants have been charged by the Public Prosecution with carrying objects that replicate explosive devices and planting it on a public road, serving a terrorist purpose.
