10 year for embezzlement
His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa ratified and issued Law 5/2019 amending Article 424 of the Penal Code promulgated by legislative decree no. 15 of 1976.
As per the new law, “Any employee or member of the board of directors or trustees in a private corporate entity who embezzles funds, bonds, or securities having fiscal, commercial or moral value found in his possession because of his job or position will be sentenced to 10 years and to give back the embezzled amount”.
The law also states, “If the embezzler receives the money, bonds, financial, commercial or securities or their equivalent in his capacity as a collection officer, representative or a banker entrusted with deposits, this will be considered reason to toughen the penalty.
