Royal wedding draws a huge audience in Bahrain

Hundreds in the Kingdom excitedly watched the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle yesterday.

The historic event was a proud moment for the British community in the Kingdom. At the newly opened UK Naval Support Facility here, personnel from the Royal Navy Royal Air Force and British Army celebrated the royal wedding, while the British Club hosted a special event to mark the occasion.

Speaking to Tribune, British national Elizabeth Dadd said, “I thought the bride looked beautiful and Prince Harry looked very happy. I’m sure Princess Diana would have been very proud had she been present at this momentous occasion.”

Another national Michelle Bailey said the royal event had an aura of simplicity. “The dress was so plain and it made my eyes ache... truly the opposite of Diana's, but both the bride and groom looked great and clothes really don't make a relationship. Harry seems like a great guy and I hope we hear some baby news very quickly.  Any good news that gets a country to celebrate and smile is worth sharing,” she said.

Riyaz Jivanjee said the event showcased the blending of two distinct cultures - British and American. “The wedding was a perfect blend of new American and Old English customs. The music, the sermon and the simplicity of the bride's gown seemed a perfection blend to celebrate what seems a love match.”

Bishop Micheal Curry who “stole the show” was also a matter of discussion. “The pastor was a bit much. The gospel choir were amazing and the brilliant cellist, all a big surprise; a break with tradition no doubt.  We will look back at this wedding as a moment in history when the British

establishment surprised us all by showing what it means to be inclusive,” said Jill Boggiss.
