Norris storms to pole in F2

Manama : Lando Norris claimed pole position on Friday night as he shone brightly under the stars in the FIA Formula 2 Championship’s season-opening qualifying run.

Norris registered a best lap of 1 minute 41.761 seconds to take the top of the timesheet following a highly competitive qualifying.

Fellow-Briton George Russell of ART Grand Prix followed in second position just 0.062 seconds adrift, while Alexander Albon of DAMS came third 0.089s back.

Nyck de Vries of Pertamina Prema Theodore Racing was ranked fourth 0.119s from the top, while Louis Deletraz of Charouz Racing System claimed fifth 0.413s off the pole-winning pace.

Earlier, Arjun Maini of Trident topped the timesheet in the free practice session of round one. 

The first Formula 2 feature race of the new season is scheduled for today at 1.10pm. The result will determine the grid for Sunday’s sprint race.
