GPIC launches its Beat the Heat Campaign
Manama
The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has launched the ‘Beat the Summer Heat Campaign’ to ensure a safe and healthy working environment at its complex.
Several lectures are being organised and posters in different languages are being distributed to employees and contractors to raise awareness on the issue. This event is part of the company's commitment to ensuring an accident-free working environment in all its facilities and plants.
GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery said the management attaches great importance to employee health and promotes safety awareness during the summer.
He said the campaign sheds light on precautionary measures workers should take to ensure their safety. He said working conditions at the plants become difficult during summer and safety of the workers should not be compromised.
He thanked the organisers for having taken all the steps to ensure its success. He said GPIC has an exemplary safety record and has never spared any effort in investing in their staff.
Dr. Jawahery thanked the staff that contributed to the success of the campaign and praised the tireless efforts of the management in enhancing awareness among the staff on the importance of maintaining their health and safety, especially during the summer.
He said heat stress and its impact on the morale and productivity of employees is an issue of utmost importance and one of the key pillars of its initiatives on health at the workplace.
In most cases, he said, heat stress is seen when temperatures range from 40 to 45 degrees Celsius with humidity up to 90 per cent or more. The impact of this extreme temperature is felt when employees are exposed directly to such high temperatures, which causes disorders. He said it is, therefore, necessary to take precautionary measures.
Posters on the ill effects of heat and how to take care have been put up all around the complex and will remain in place for the next two months. The campaign also includes the distribution of drinking water, juices and energy drinks to the employees.
