Jerusalem: One Israeli soldier was killed and seven others were injured during fighting in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military said on Thursday, in one of the most tragic incidents for Israeli forces since hostilities with Hezbollah restarted despite a fragile ceasefire.

The military identified the soldier as Master Sergeant (res.) Alexander Filin, 29, who was killed during operations in southern Lebanon on Wednesday. According to the Israeli army, the incident happened when soldiers were attacked while patrolling near the border. According to Israeli media, the injuries were caused by an explosive device detonated by Hezbollah members as they targeted an Israeli military force.

An officer, a reserve officer, and a reserve soldier were among the seven injured, all of whom had moderate injuries. Four more soldiers are lightly wounded. According to the military, all of the injured were taken to hospitals for treatment, and their families have been informed.

The recent losses reflect the ongoing instability along the Israel-Lebanon border, where clashes between Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah continue despite successive ceasefire efforts. Israel has carried out military operations in southern Lebanon, claiming they are intended to prevent Hezbollah from re-establishing military positions near the border, while Hezbollah has continued to strike Israeli troops operating within Lebanese territory.
