Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, reviewed municipal service preparations across the Capital Governorate and launched the Main Municipal Services Operations Centre for Ashoora as part of ongoing efforts to ensure readiness for the Ashoora commemoration of 1448 AH.
The minister conducted a field visit to several key locations, procession routes, and maatams in Manama to assess the preparedness of municipal services and ensure the highest standards of service delivery during the occasion.
The tour was attended by Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs; Saleh Taher Tarradah, Chairman of the Capital Trustees Board; Alya Yousif Yahya, Director General of the Capital Municipality; Brigadier Dr. Ammar Mustafa Al Sayed, Deputy Governor of the Capital Governorate; as well as a number of maatam heads and officials.
Al Mubarak said the visit reflects the ministry’s commitment to enhancing municipal services during Ashoora through intensified sanitation and waste management operations, supported by the necessary resources and manpower to maintain public spaces and ensure efficient service delivery.
During the visit, he inaugurated the Main Municipal Services Operations Centre for Ashoora in Manama, which will oversee sanitation and support services throughout the commemoration period. The centre will also implement awareness initiatives aimed at promoting cleanliness, encouraging recycling practices, and supporting environmental sustainability.
The minister noted that the ministry’s operational plan for the Capital Governorate includes the deployment of 300 sanitation workers and 12 municipal inspectors. The plan also provides for 300 waste containers, 250 litter bins, seven waste collection trucks, 10 plastic recycling containers, and four mechanical street-sweeping vehicles to ensure the swift removal of waste and the cleanliness of public areas surrounding maatams.
He added that the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, through the Capital Municipality, will further strengthen recycling efforts by establishing additional waste collection points throughout the capital and expanding awareness campaigns in cooperation with community partners.
Al Mubarak highlighted the ministry’s ongoing coordination with relevant authorities and maatam administrators to ensure the smooth delivery of municipal services during Ashoora. He also stressed the importance of community participation and environmental awareness in preserving public spaces and contributing to the success of the commemoration.
For their part, the heads of the maatams visited expressed appreciation for the ministry’s efforts, commending the government’s commitment to providing the services and resources necessary for the successful organisation of Ashoora 1448 AH and ensuring a high standard of services for participants.
