South Korea's Kospi Crosses 9,000 for First Time

Seoul: South Korea's benchmark Kospi index rose above 9,000 points for the first time on Thursday, leading to a historic rise fuelled by significant gains in semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) firms.

The Kospi rose to a new high of 9,000.68 during trade, boosted by heavyweight chipmakers and sustained investor optimism about AI-driven technology demand. The milestone occurred as broader Asian markets climbed following an interim peace accord between the US and Iran, which lifted global risk sentiment and eased concerns about oil supply disruptions.

The rise has pushed South Korea to one of the world's best-performing major equities markets this year, with semiconductor giants driving the benchmark's remarkable gains.
