Substance abuse: Sentence upheld
Manama
A 24-year-old person, accused of substance abuse, will serve one year behind bars as the High Criminal Appeals Court upheld his sentence.
The case was reported to police by the accused’s mother, who saw him lying on the ground holding a syringe with the drug.
He was admitted to hospital and police later found heroin cigarettes while raiding his room, according to court files.
"He was unconscious and was holding a syringe in his hand. I called police to inform them because he had become a drug addict," the mother said in her statement. "When police came they found him on the ground, motionless. They took my son to hospital and later inspected my son’s room," she added.
The High Criminal Court earlier handed him a one-year-jail term on grounds of recreational use of drugs.
