Jail term for dad upheld for crippling seven-year-old son

Manama : The Supreme Appeals Court yesterday upheld the five-year imprisonment awarded to a man who brutally attacked his son, resulting in 100 per cent permanent disability.

According to the details of the case, the defendant used to repeatedly assault and physically abuse the seven-year-old victim.

The mother of the boy told the prosecutors that the attack resulted in the boy’s total paralysis. She said that the boy was attacked for refusing to leave his grandparents’ house. The accused forcibly seated the boy in the car after beating him up, which resulted in the boy falling unconscious before they reached home.

The unconscious boy was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with brain hemorrhage and had to undergo an urgent surgery to stop the bleeding.

The court reviewed several medical reports that showed multiple injuries, tissues damage and bruises all over the boy’s body caused by the father’s repeated physical assaults, which also caused a 57 per cent mental disability to the victim three years prior to the most recent incident.

The files of the case states that the boy remains immobile and unable to swallow, and that he was being fed through a tube in the abdomen.

As for the father, he earlier informed the interrogators that he assaulted his son using his bare hands and he confessed to his crime. He was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the court, but later appealed against the verdict. The Supreme Court of Appeals reviewed his request, rejected it and ordered to uphold the original verdict yesterday.
