Bahrain cars will not be impounded for offences

Manama : Vehicles in Bahrain will not be impounded by the authorities in case the driver was caught using a cellular phone or not using the seatbelt while driving, or parking in no-parking zones, the authorities confirmed yesterday.

This came as news have been spread all over local social media networks in the past two days, claiming that the General Directorate of Traffic here announced that it will seize vehicles for two months in case the drivers were detected committing any of the three offences.

General Director of Traffic Colonel Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa affirmed in a statement issued yesterday that “the directorate adopts a fixed method of communication and community partnership with citizens and residents”, insisting that it follows a transparent method in case of any updates or instructions in relation to traffic situations.

Shaikh Abdulrahman called upon the public and social media networks to adhere to credibility and accuracy before circulating any news, and not to circulate any information without verifying its authenticity with the official authorities responsible. Following the official statement, several pages on social media denied the news and claimed that it has been announced in Kuwait and not here.
