Recently detained opposition official denounced by religious centre
Manama
Following the recent speech by opposition figure Ebrahim Sharif that landed him back in jail after being released by a Royal Pardon last month, the person in-charge of the religious centre where Sharif delivered his speech rejected involving religion in political activities.
In a statement released by Interior Ministry, the General Director of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science Brigadier Abdulrahman Al Sinan announced that “the person in-charge of Al Hija Mattam (Community Center) in Muharraq was questioned about Ebrahim Sharif's July 10 speech.”
“The person rejected the contents of the speech and said it was not appropriate for an event held at the Mattam. The individual rejected holding political activities at the Mattam, saying places of worship should not be exploited for political purposes,” said Al Sinan, adding that legal proceedings are being taken in the case.
As reported earlier this week, Ebrahim Sharif was thrown behind bars once again, after spending almost four years in jail. He was rearrested because of statements he made during a speech that encouraged the overthrow of the government and incited hatred and sectarianism, as announced by security authorities.
