Melbourne: Ben Roberts-Smith, Australia’s most decorated living veteran, was released on bail from a Sydney prison, 10 days after being charged with war crimes linked to the deaths of five people in Afghanistan.

Judge Greg Grogin approved the bail, saying there were exceptional reasons for his release. Prosecutors had opposed the move, arguing that Roberts-Smith could flee the country or interfere with witnesses and evidence.
