Teen returned from Iran killed in a bid to plant explosive

Manama

A Bahraini teenager was killed while planting a homemade explosive, using a cooking pot, shortly after returning from a trip to Iran, informed authorities yesterday.

The 18-year-old was apparently targeting security forces in Eker village in the Capital Governorate yesterday around 4.30 am. The deceased was identified as Qassim Mohsen.

“It was reported by a local private security guard to the Ministry’s main operation room after he heard the explosion,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement. “Police arrived at the crime scene and found the dead body.”

Initial investigations have revealed that the deceased teen was a secondary school student, who returned to Bahrain in May after a two-week trip to Iran.

“A probe is on and the Public Prosecution has been notified. Those with any information can call the Police hotline on 80008008,” Interior Ministry stated.

According to a video aired on Bahrain Satellite Television Channel yesterday, the bomb was manufactured using a cooking pot that was found near the body.

The news send shock waves among the people of Bahrain, who used social networks and cyber platforms to express their condemnation of such terrorist activities that hinder peace and security in the Kingdom during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa commented on his official Twitter page: “An Islamic State member who intended evil against his home country. His own bomb killed him immediately. May God protect Bahrain and its people.”

On the other hand, radical groups’ cyber pages were flooded with mourns and claims of martyrdom of the dead.

However, similar incidents have occurred during the past two years, where individuals were killed while manufacturing or placing explosives in different parts of the Kingdom.
