Cameroon: Pope Leo XIV strongly criticised global leaders for spending huge amounts on war instead of helping people, during a visit to Cameroon.
He said the world is being damaged by a few powerful leaders and accused some of misusing religion for their own benefit. Speaking in a region affected by long-running violence, the Pope highlighted how money is spent on destruction while basic needs like healthcare and education are ignored.
His comments come shortly after a public disagreement with Donald Trump, who criticised the Pope online. Leo avoided responding directly but said he would continue to speak about peace.
He also warned about the ongoing conflict and suffering in parts of Cameroon, where years of insurgency have killed thousands and displaced many others.
The Pope stressed that peace is not difficult to achieve if people choose to treat each other with respect and humanity.
