BALS: Roar over Sheep Skin
The skins of dead sheep were spotted being dumped and openly transported in a truck in Sitra at around 9 am on May 9, and Bahrain Animal Lovers Society (BALS), a social media initiative in the Kingdom, condemned the act.
BALS Founder and Animal Activist, Huda Nasser, had photographed this and shared it in the group’s social media page. The post created a roar among the animal lovers in the Kingdom, who harshly criticized it.
“Dead animals or its remains should not be transported openly as it’s highly unhygienic,” Nasser told DT News. The cleaning companies approved by the Municipality is responsible for removing the remains of the slaughtered animals. One of the leading cleaning companies claimed that they follow strict procedures to transfer the remains of slaughtered animals.
A representative of the company, who preferred anonymity, said there is nothing unhygienic about their transportation method. “The remains aren’t much. The skin is sold and almost 95 per cent of the meat is used,” he added.
“We usually use skips to transport the animal remains. All our vehicles have our logo. For safety and hygienic reasons, the skips are not fully filled to avoid spillage during the transportation,” said Public Relations officer of the company, Hisham Al Haddad. The unhygienic transportation was severely condemned by the citizens and the animal lovers in the Kingdom have called out for stricter norms.
