Bahrain’s under-18 basketball team suffered a heavy 116-59 defeat against hosts Germany in the opening game of the 31st Albert Schweitzer Tournament yesterday. The Bahrainis, making their debut at the prestigious event under coach Georgios Vovoras, struggled to contain the worldclass Germans, who dominated from the first quarter.
Germany surged early, building a 37-14 lead after the opening frame and never looked back. Standout performances came from Lucai Anderson, who scored 16 points, and Kenan Youdom with 14 points, while Fin Borczanowski added 14. Jamie Edoka contributed 11 points and six rebounds, helping the hosts maintain control throughout.
Despite spirited efforts from Bahrain’s Hassan Abdulkadir, who finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Somto Patrick Onoduenyi’s eight points, the nationals were unable to match Germany’s pace and precision.
Bahrain now face Sweden in their second Group A game today at 6.15pm Bahrain time, before taking on Slovenia tomorrow at the same time and Japan on Wednesday at 2.15pm.
