U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States military carried out a high-risk search-and-rescue operation deep inside Iranian territory, successfully recovering a U.S. service member he described as a colonel.
In a statement, Trump said the operation took place over the past several hours in mountainous terrain and involved multiple U.S. military aircraft deployed under his direction. He said the service member had been behind enemy lines and was being pursued, but was successfully located and extracted.
Trump added that the rescued individual sustained injuries but is now safe, crediting senior military leadership for continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating the operation in real time.
He also stated that the mission followed a separate earlier rescue operation involving another U.S. pilot, which was not publicly confirmed at the time in order to protect the follow-up mission.
According to Trump, both operations involved deep penetration into hostile territory and were completed without any American casualties, calling the outcome evidence of overwhelming U.S. air superiority.
He concluded by praising the U.S. armed forces, saying the missions demonstrate their professionalism and reaffirm the commitment that no American service member will be left behind.
