The Northern Municipal Council has approved two proposals to build multi-use halls in Al Jasra and Budaiya, after council member Mohammed Saad Al Dosari said both areas lacked the space needed for youth events and social gatherings.
One of the plans covers a multi-purpose hall in Block 1004 for Al Jasra Youth Empowerment Centre. The proposed site is registered to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and sits next to the centre.
Al Dosari said the proposal was put forward to meet the needs of residents in the third constituency, as there is no equipped hall in Al Jasra and nearby areas able to host the rising number of social, cultural and sporting activities.
‘The proposal comes in light of the lack of a hall fitted to meet the growing needs of events and social, cultural and sporting programmes.’
He said the project would give the centre a space to host youth activities and national initiatives, while making better use of adjacent land already classed for sports services. He added that the lack of such a facility had limited the centre’s ability to carry out its developmental and social work in the area.
The council also gave the go-ahead to another proposal by Al Dosari to allocate a property in Block 555 in Budaiya for a multi-use events hall for local residents. The plot is part of state-owned land.
Al Dosari said Budaiya had only a small number of places for weddings, banquets, condolence gatherings and other public uses, leaving many residents to look outside the area and pay high rental costs.
‘The aim is to allocate the site for a multi-use hall for the people of Budaiya, given the limited number of places for social occasions such as weddings, banquets and condolence gatherings, with the possibility of using it for public activities as well.’
He said the hall would give residents a suitable venue for family and public events, ease the burden of hiring private halls elsewhere, and help bring people in the area closer together. The reasons put forward with the proposal also referred to population growth in Budaiya and nearby districts, and the need to use the land in a way that serves the public good.
