Manama
A 46-year-old person appeared at the High Criminal Court over accusation of raping a mentally-ill 32-year-old person. The accused pleaded not guilty but a remand judge ordered him to be kept in police custody, pending trial.
He reportedly sexually assaulted his victim in a restroom of King Faisal Corniche. The alleged crime came to the fore when the victim went to police and requested them to drop him at his home as the accused had stolen his money.
The victim was reportedly collecting BD1 from the Zaka Fund in Manama when he met the accused. The two of them then went to a bar before heading to King Faisal Corniche.
"We were about to sleep there, but a security guard refused to let us. So we headed to the restroom, where he (the defendant) sexually assaulted me. He then took my money and a copy of my CPR and fled," the victim told police.
According to the victim's testimony, he was in a relationship with the accused and they used to hang out occasionally. The victim’s father later informed prosecutors that his son was mentally ill and he was intellectually way behind his chronological age. The defendant has also been charged with robbery.
