SIU receives spate of plaints

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) last month received 36 complaints ranging between torture claims as well as ill-treatment and use of excessive force by police officers against prisoners.
Mohammed Haza, the member of the unit said in a statement that the SIU had questioned 14 suspects from the security forces in relation to those claims and heard the testimonies of 35 witnesses.
Haza said that the SIU also received a copy of the case of the events occurred in Jaw Prison on March 10, 2015. He also confirmed that the SIU had completed its investigations into three separate cases and concluded with referring seven police officers to trial on charges of the use of excessive force.
