BIC is ready for the Battle

Manama : Bahrain’s top drag racers are eager to end the national season on a high note this weekend at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir.

Following two nights of Test and Tune, the field is ready for battle as they head into Qualifying on today and Race Day tomorrow for the fifth and final round of the 2016/2017 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship-Arabian Pro Series.

The meeting marks the culmination of another spectacular local campaign, and the top guns of the sport are looking to put on a special performance one last time in their quest for glory.

Among those looking to make the biggest noise are Bahrain1Racing’s American drag racing legend Steve Jackson, E Kanoo Racing’s superstar veteran Khaled Mohammed and SMS Racing’s passionate leader Salah Salahuddin.

Jackson is one of the favourites in the highly competitive Pro Mod category. Having won three out of four races this season, he is hoping to steer his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro to one last victory to cap an exceptional debut season in the Bahrain championship.

“We absolutely want to crush the competition again,” Jackson says with a smile. “We don’t ever take anything for granted and every time I go down to the starting line, I want to win, even if it’s going out there for testing.”

E Kanoo Racing’s Mohammed is another to look out for in this season finale. The multi-titled racer is competing in both the Pro Mod and the Super Street V8 categories, and has done well in both so far.

Mohammed will be looking to build on his brilliant showing in the previous round when he set a new World Record of 3.984s at 322.58kph in the Super Street V8, making it the first time ever for a car in that category to dip into three seconds.

Salahuddin of SMS Racing will be hoping to make his own big impact in the Street V8 category. He too is coming off a victory in round four and will be aiming for a perfect ending to a tough yet very successful season. Qualifying today starts at 4pm while Race Day  is tomorrow at 3pm and all are welcome with tickets available at the gate. All those who will be on hand will be able to enjoy a special treat with a special performance of the globally renowned Jet Funny Car.
