Big win for Sabban

Manama : Umm As Sabban defeated Amwaj 2-0 in Group C in the third round of group matches in the RJ Investments Holding Group Team Doubles Tennis Tournament 2017 at the Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair under the patronage and head of the group, Rashad Janahi.

In the opening rubber, Mohammed Sayed and Ahmed Omran defeated Yousef Fakhro and Emanuel 9-6 games and Sundara Ram and Ammar Al Shaikh completed victory with a closely fought 9-8(7) win over Emad Ali and Faisal Sharaf.

In Group A action, Qassar Al Qulayah beat Al Muharraq 2-1, with the winning team of Hussain Nashaba and Sami Dannish losing the opening rubber 2-9 to Nalan Chokappa and Mohammed Khonji.

Salman Hassan and Yousef Khonji then levelled the match with a 9-0 victory over Khalid Ghuloom and Bikash Rout and Hassan and Nashaba secured a tie-break win with a 7-4, 7-2 result against Chokappa and Ghuloom.

The championship features 15 teams named after Bahrain’s islands split into three groups of five teams playing on a round-robin basis with Semi-finals set for February 1 with the three group winners and the best second placed team qualifying with the Final set for February 4.
