MP calls to cease additional taxes

ManamaA lawmaker in the Kingdom has demanded the Government to cease imposing additional taxes on citizens and to “adopt a clear economic strategy” to overcome the existing challenges the Kingdom is facing.

Parliament’s Financial and Economic Committee Member Jalal Kadhim called upon the government to “follow economic plans that fulfil citizens aspirations of decent living instead of introducing new fees and taxes on them”.

The MP termed the additional fees imposed recently on citizens as “clumsy” and not the adequate solution to the financial situations in the country.

“The majority of Bahraini citizens are from middle class and their wages barely cover their basic needs. Imposing more fees on them would prevent them from achieving the future goals for them and their children. This reflects the governments short vision in fixing the economic situations,” Kadhim stated.

“More developmental programmes and projects should be introduced to prove the government’s competence and seriousness about diversifying state revenues, and not rely on oil incomes as a main source of income,” he said.

MP Kadhim also urged government to invest in the national elements to reduce the financial commitments and reliability on
foreign bodies.
