Call to end woes of Muslim minorities in Myanmar

Manama : In the wake of increasing violence against the Muslim minorities in Myanmar, a Bahraini activist has called upon the international community to rescue the oppressed Rohingya people, who are being brutally massacred and displaced there.

Ebtisam Hejres, Secretary General  of the Kingdom of Arakan accused non-governmental organisations and societies of turning a deaf ear to the struggle of Rohingya people, who are victims of ethnic cleansing in Myanmar.

“The silence of non-governmental organisations and societies, who raise millions by claiming to support the cause of Rohingya people, is disgraceful. They should fulfil their
duties, especially in times of distress like these,” she continued.

Noting the ongoing refugees crisis, the former lawmaker called upon neighbouring countries to solve the humanitarian crisis of Rohingya by pressurising the government of Myanmar

“Due to this international silence, religious extremists in Myanmar are continuing their genocides at ease, knowing that they won’t be held accountable. It’s our humanitarian responsibility to help these people during these times,” Hejres added,

“Rohingya people are currently escaping their villages and taking refuge in the outdoors with no food or roof on top of their heads. They’re undergoing all of this only because of their religion and beliefs (Islam). These shameful acts are being done by religious extremists there, and government authorities in Myanmar are covering up for their crimes,” Hejres told DT News yesterday.

At least 300, 000 of Rohingya people were displaced in the western state of Rakhine in the Southeast Asian country lately.

International reports mentioned that three entire villages were set on fire by extremists. The act was widely condemned by rights groups, including the United Nations and Human Rights Watch.
