Strong winds to hit Bahrain tomorrow
Manama The Meteorological Department of Ministry of Transport and Communication announced that Bahrain would be affected by Northwesterly winds tomorrow. It also urged citizens, especially the mariners to be cautious. The Met Department added that the Northwesterly winds would gain pace on Saturday and the next few days due to the formation of the seasonal low pressure over central and southern parts of Pakistan. “The pressure extends to the Arabian Gulf during June and July, leading Shamal winds, locally known as Al Barreh winds. The winds usually blow for about 40 days, but they vary in duration and speed, from one year to another,” it said in a statement. “This wind is usually dry and associated with dust haze and sand due to its passage over the Southern part of Iraq and the Northern parts of the Arabian Peninsula, but pleasant overnight due to low humidity,” opined the weatherman. The first Shamal winds of the year hit the Kingdom on June 8, affecting the fishing business in the Kingdom. Last year, Al Barreh winds hit the Kingdom on June 4, reducing the visibility to less than 400 meters sometimes, affecting the movement of road, marine, and aviation transportation in Bahrain as well as other GCC countries.
