Qatar PM Arrives in Tehran for Iran Talks
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Thursday, focusing on regional developments and efforts to reduce escalating tensions.
The meeting covered diplomatic efforts aimed at creating conditions for dialogue and supporting greater regional security and stability.
The two officials also discussed an ongoing proposed phased framework that includes establishing a temporary joint navigational corridor through the Strait of Hormuz. The discussions also covered a proposed joint project to clear mines from the strategic waterway.
Sheikh Mohammed stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of neighbouring states and freedom of navigation, while highlighting the need to continue diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and resolve differences through dialogue.
Mr Abbas Araghchi, meanwhile, expressed Iran’s appreciation for Qatar’s continued diplomatic efforts and its role in supporting dialogue and attempts to reduce escalation.
The talks come as diplomatic efforts continue to address tensions in the region and maintain safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
