Food Revolution at Bahrain St Chris
St Chris Primary School participated in the Food Revolutionary Day yesterday. This year there was even more cause, as the school also celebrated the bicentennial of the Bahrain and UK relations, and were delighted to welcome Lt Col Andy Price (RM), the British Defence Attaché on behalf of the British Embassy.
Originally devised by well-known TV Chef Jamie Oliver, Food Revolution Day is designed to get kids cooking from scratch and to encourage fresh local produce and healthy eating. Well-known chefs were invited from the Bahraini community to reflect local food traditions, and all the students in our Primary School got involved by visiting the food stalls throughout the day. Pupils also made ‘Bake from Scratch’ dishes at home over the weekend, and brought them into school for everyone to enjoy! This year all proceeds will be donated towards the St Christopher’s School ‘Cleaning Staff Day Out’ and the ‘Saturday Biryani Party’.
The school thanked local companies who took part: Chef Alexandra from Jawads; Yum Cha Catering; Carlton Nutrition, Taste & Live, Alosra, Villa Mama’s, Lumee, and Jassim Agriculture who provided plant pots, seeds and soil giving the children a chance to plant and grow their own herbs.
