Bahrain Welcomes UN Security Council Condemnation of Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia

Bahrain has welcomed a statement issued by members of the United Nations Security Council condemning missile attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia and attacks targeting the safety of commercial vessels.

In a statement, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the Kingdom’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken by Riyadh to protect its sovereignty, security, stability and vital interests.

The ministry stressed that Saudi Arabia’s security and stability are an integral part of the security of Bahrain and all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, highlighting the two countries’ longstanding historical and fraternal ties, shared destiny and commitments under the GCC Joint Defence Agreement.

Bahrain also expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic, developmental and humanitarian efforts in Yemen, including its leadership of the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen and efforts to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable political solution.

The ministry further praised Saudi Arabia’s role in establishing a multinational maritime defence coalition aimed at strengthening maritime security, protecting freedom of navigation and international trade, and safeguarding global energy supplies.

Bahrain, through its current non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council, called on the international community to fulfil its responsibilities and adopt a firm position to deter attacks that threaten the safety of maritime navigation and international commerce.

The ministry stressed the need to uphold international law, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and relevant Security Council resolutions, while supporting efforts to promote security, stability and peace across the region.
