Protecting Victims, Combating Trafficking

Minister of Interior, His Excellency General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, has reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening regional coordination and international cooperation in the fight against human trafficking.

In a statement marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on July 30, the Interior Minister said Bahrain continues to enhance efforts to combat the serious crime through proactive measures, security readiness, modern technologies and artificial intelligence solutions.

He highlighted that Bahrain’s achievements in combating human trafficking and maintaining its leading international position in this field reflect the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support and follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The minister stressed the importance of continuing these efforts and further strengthening Bahrain’s distinguished record through collective action and international partnerships.

70 Reports Handled, 84 Victims Protected

According to statistics, the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, through its Anti-Human Trafficking Directorate, handled 70 reports between 2025 and the first half of 2026.

The efforts resulted in the protection of 84 victims during the same period, while legal procedures were taken against 92 suspects involved in trafficking-related cases.

New Research Award Announced

The Interior Minister also announced the launch of a dedicated scientific research award in the field of combating human trafficking, aimed at supporting national efforts and encouraging research that contributes to addressing the crime.

He praised the efforts of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, civil society organisations, and security authorities, particularly the Anti-Human Trafficking Directorate, for their continued work and commitment.

International Cooperation Key to Combating Crime

The minister noted that human trafficking remains a growing global challenge, with organised criminal networks exploiting victims through forced labour and inhumane conditions that violate basic human rights and international conventions.

He reaffirmed that the Ministry of Interior will continue fulfilling its national mission to safeguard security, uphold the rule of law, strengthen justice, and promote Bahrain’s values of peace, moderation, equality and coexistence.
