RCSI Bahrain’s first oncology seminar

The treatment of cancer will come into focus at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) tomorrow, as it plays host to its first Oncology Symposium.

Organised and run by the student Medical Research and Medics in Leadership Societies, the event will feature a series of talks and interactive workshops covering a whole host of topics including oncologic emergencies; Paediatric Oncology Imaging; lab investigations and palliative care.

The main aim of the symposium are to highlight the importance of research in the field of oncology, as well as to understand the current situation of oncology in Bahrain.

It also hopes to target new oncological interventions in terms of: screening, diagnosis, treatment and prevention, while providing participants with hands-on experience of and surgical oncology.

This is the second student-run medical event in as many weeks at RCSI Bahrain, following the success of last weekend’s International Surgical Careers Conference (ISCC).

The Oncology Symposium will run from 8.45am to 7.15pm on Saturday at RCSI Bahrain’s Sports and Recreation Centre (SRC).

An entry fee of 5BD per person will apply, with all profits being donated to the Bahrain Cancer Society.

RCSI Bahrain is a constituent university of RSCI, which was established in 1784. Like its Irish counterpart, RCSI Bahrain is a not-for-profit health sciences institution focused on education and research to drive positive change in all areas of human health worldwide.
